Emile Hayne – “A Kiss Goodbye” (Feat. Charlotte Gainsbourg, Devonté Hynes, & Sampha)
Holy fuck, what a posse cut! Emile Haynie, producer of Kanye West’s “Runaway,” Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out Of Heaven,” and many Lana Del Rey songs, just released “A Kiss Goodbye,” a mournful echo-chamber-pop ballad about the gut-wrenching aftermath of love gone wrong. For assistance with this study in 808s and heartbreak, he recruited Charlotte Gainsbourg, Dev Hynes, and Sampha, three heavy hitters especially adept at channeling sublime despondence. Hynes contributes guitar, Gainsbourg supplies ghostly echoes in the distance, and Sampha handles the heartsick lead vocals. “It was so magnificent when we had it all,” he sings between refrains of “Did it ever occur that you forgave yourself before I did?” Dude sounds like he’s digging up something real here, and if so, he can take solace in the fact that the wreckage is rather magnificent too. Press play below and hurt so good.
